How Do DJ’s Eliminate Song Request & Keep Your Party Rocking!

How Do DJ’s Eliminate Song Request & Keep Your Party Rocking!

When thinking of an event, the first two things that come across people’s minds are the DJ/Entertainers for that event and the audience that is going to be entertained. Over the years, there has been one debatable topic that has a significant impact on both groups (the DJ/Entertainers, the audience).

A few months ago at a Corporate Event right outside the city of Detroit in Ann Arbor, MI, Corporate Event DJ Todd Everett of The Todd Everett Experience Mobile DJ, Lighting & Photo-booth Services, was approached by a staff member at Washtenaw Community College. This staff member was working during this event and wanted to hear one of his favorite songs. Now Todd Everett could have easily blown this guy off for various reasons, but he decided not to. One reason could have been a simple fact that this gentleman was a staff member and not a guest. He was an employee of the event venue that worked somewhere back in the kitchen area. The reason Todd Everett didn’t ignore this guy’s song request is that Todd Everett was more interested in the “why” behind this gentleman leaving his work area and duties just to come to the DJ Booth to request his favorite song. For most DJs this might not have been such a big deal, but when analyzing this guy’s efforts, it must have been a big deal for him to hear that song. When considering the efforts and possible risks that this guy probably took to come way over to the DJ Booth, Todd Everett knew that this was a situation that shouldn’t go ignored.

Song requests are probably one of the most talked-about topics amongst DJs/Entertainers and those who sit, stand, and party on the opposite side of any event’s main stage. DJs often turn their nose up at people who come up to them to request songs and those who request songs often turn their nose up at the DJ/Entertainer who don’t acknowledge their request or follow-through with their request. Song requests can also be more plentiful when considering the event type. With certain types of events, the audience can make a direct connection with the DJ/Entertainer due to visibility. At a nightclub, DJs are usually elevated or isolated in a booth, tucked away from the dance-floor. With a Wedding DJ or a Corporate Event DJ, there are no limitations or restrictions. A guest has the luxury of approaching the DJ/Entertainer to make a song request as they please throughout the event. In a lot of cases, this exposure can be frustrating to a DJ and sometimes a distraction. For a party or event-goer, this exposure can be a disappointment waiting to happen. On the flip-side, it can be a motivating incentive for you to dance and participate in the festivities. At the end of the day, it all boils down to how receptive the DJ/Entertainer is when this encounter takes place.

In the video above, Todd Everett takes a close look at both ends of the spectrum. See how both sides can come to a resolution that in turn is a win-win for both.
